Hartenbos Wine Festival
Friday, September 9th, 2011Hartenbos hosts the Hartenbos Wine Festival offering wine tasters the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the wines from wineries on Klein Karoo wine route. It follows the Cape Route 62 from Montagu in the west to the Langkloof in the east and its is one of the most interesting and diverse wine producing areas in South Africa.
Vineyards of fertile alluvial soil can be found along the river lines on the high slopes of a valley between imposing mountain ranges. The Klein Karoo has a drier climate with healthy and predominently organically cultivated vineyards.
Winemakers in the region take full advantage of different micro-climates that result in a diverse range of quality wines. these include world beating Port and South Africa’s premier Muscadel as well as both red and white wines, varying from full-bodied cabernets to lighter easier wines and pot-stilled brandies.
